Upon arriving in Chaska Ludwig became employed as a tailor in the Wudke shop, continuing in this craft for many years.  Later he was employed in the manufacture of brick and at the sugar factory.  Ludwig held various offices at Saint John's church.  He was at one time an alderman for the Third ward was on of the oldest living retired members of the fire department.

Henry was a valuable and faithful employee of the brickyards and sugar factory.  He served his city as a member of the city council for several terms and a couple years ago as assessor.  Henry was and organizer and the first president of Saint John's Lutheran Cemetery Association.

Notes for ADAM J. HAPP:

Shortly after their marriage Adam and his wife moved onto a farm in Dahlgren which they operated a number of years.  Later they rented their farm and built a home in Augusta where Adam was engaged in the hardware, farm machinery, and automobile business.  In 1927 they purchased their present home and moved to Chaska.  For several years the family operated the Happ auditorium.  The big auditorium was operated as a dance hall and recreational center for basketball.  Later they owned and operated a dance pavilion near Leroy, Mower, Minnesota.  In 1936 they built the large dance hall at the "Y", junction of highways 212 and 169.  In 1941 the couple retired form active business prompted by heart attack suffered by Adam.

Notes for CONRAD HAPP:

Conrad never married. Conrad served as a cook in the Service and was honorably discharged. Conrad was a charter member of the old Schnitzelbank club and was its first president and held that post for at least ten years.  He was president at the time the gigantic dance hall was built on the hill overlooking the city and he was the originator of the Christmas tree celebrations held in this city years ago on the public square.  Conrad's business career began when he opened a tavern in the old First National building, and it must be said that he certainly lived up to the letter of the law and his place gained wide repute for the orderly manner in which it was conducted and for the excellence of the food and drink served therein.
